So I hired a guy to help me pick the specs on my new rig as it will be my first one that I am buildimg myself. He is charging 450 for labor to help me build and here's what he picked out for (I want to make sure these components will create the gaming desktop that I want):
Case: Rose Will Patriot
Motherboard: MSI Z87 MPOWER
Power supply: Corsair 750 Watt
Processor:i7-4820 K 3.7 GHz Quad Core
RAM:Kingston HyperX Predator 16 GB
Video Card:GeForce GTX 660 TI-DC20-2GD5
Sound card:Sound Blaster Zx 192 KHz - 24 bit
Hard Drive:Samsung 840 EVO 250 Gb
Is this a good gaming computer for around 1500-2000 and should I pay this guy to help me or can I tackle this on my own. Thanks for the help, it means a lot.

Those are pretty good specs all around, though you could go with a bit less than 750W unless you plan to add a second video card later and you could also take out the sound card and use the savings on a faster video card (onboard audio is generally good these days though you could always upgrade later if you are dissatisfied).

$450 is quite a lot as an assembly fee though.

The 4820 won't fit the Z87 mobo. The Power Supply is big - it'll power 2 x 660Ti's. You probably want an Optical Drive and an Operating System.

Have a look at some of the other recommendations for similar budget builds on this forum or elsewhere first.

You need to do a LOT of research first. Look at other people's builds and budgets, decide which components, check out reviews on them then compile an initial PartPicker list and come back her with the link to review. What country are you in?

Crap, that's right: the i7 4820 is a socket 2011 part. You'd either need a different board (generally 2011 socket boards are mucho expensive) or switch to the i7-4770.

Now, this guy is charging $450 and doesn't even come up with a compatible set of parts...

No go on that build! For video editing looks fine even so but for gaming no chance. A 660 ti paired with a i7 4820k no way. No need for 16 gb ram for gaming also. And you don't necessarily need a sound card if the motherboard is good enough.

Have a look at this build and see what you need and what you don't for eg.: Mouse, Keyboard, monitor, OS, DVD DRIVE.

Feel free to change parts here and there.
