I upgraded from 13.10 yesterday and with 13.10 it worked amazing. I upgraded and with 14.04 the internet is super slow, times out and disconnects all the time. This is wireless. If I can't get this to work I will prob go back to 13.10; how can I do that if it comes to that? First though I want to use 14.10 but I need the internet to work.

This is what the terminal said. It would be great to have the internet become what it was on 14.04 as it was on 13.10.

AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter has issues with Linux. If you search AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter linux driver you'll get several tutorials on the fix.

Try adding nohwcrypt=1 to ath9k module parameters.

sudo rmmod ath9k && sudo modprobe -v ath9k nohwcrypt=1
adding nohwcrypt=1 disables possibly buggy hardware encryption..
In addition In the blog post from pkill-9, doesnt actually appear to do anything at all. Just installs wicd and uninstall gnome-networkmanager. Would be shocked if this fixed any issues.

Now I do have another wireless card that I tried with this computer, though it wouldn't connect when I installed it. It's in the link.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
I would prefer to use the one in the link cause it's PCI. I would eventually like to put a GPU in my comp but cant with the current network card. Either way, the one I linked didn't work. It would not connect.

Could be driver bug. Load up 13.10 livecd and confirm if issue is still present.
Is it really a weaker signal or is it just reporting weaker signal? Is it measurably slower?
transfer some files over network to measure transfer speed
ping your router, via wifi should be ~1ms.
if you cant get the issue resolved: suggest posting on the ath9k mailing list, hopefully a developer will contact you and probably ask you to submit a bug report.

maybe a good idea, though sometimes it is difficult to know beforehand what chipset is used in a particular card before you buy it. Many times manufactures choose to make multiple versions of the same card, v1,2,3... and use different chipsets for each version. Most stores will not tell you what you are getting.
Example: DWA160 has 5 different revisions:
https://wikidevi.com/wiki/D-Link_DWA-160_rev_A1
I suggest you start looking here for linux certified wifi cards
https://www.thinkpenguin.com/catalog/wireless-networkin...
You can check wikidevi for cards with similar chipsets

I've been eyeballing this one. Should it work with 14.04?

So i bought a wifi adapter from thinkpenguin.com which was suggested above and i am still getting a weak to ok signal. Still only 2 bars on the indicator in the corner. I don't know what the problem would be this time around. Anything I can do now? The card is the Penguin Wireless N PCI card for GNU/Linux v5.
