Hey,

So all of the computer parts came in, and installed. Right now I have a kaveri that is water cooled, 16 gigs of 2400 mushkin ram, an asus 290 video card and an asus a88x-pro tying it all together. To start how do I open or run drivers from the Asus website for my motherboard. The files are in a format called CAP. And WinZip tries to open them but nothing really happens after I clicked open with WinZip. My second question is my ram is currently running at 1600 MHz but the board and the ram itself supports 2400 as mentioned earlier. How do I get it to run at its intended speed. I was doing some reading and people were talking about changing bus speeds and changing all kinds of setting in the bios. I am not comfortable doing this without a clear description of what I am doing. If anyone would like to share so knowledge on how to change these setting and what to change them too I would be very thankful.

I went to Asus's site and all of the download files for your MB are .zip files. Are you sure you downloaded the correct files? This is the page I saw ( note: it is for W8_64, so go back and choose your OS if you are not using W8 ):

Regarding your RAM, you may want to try using Asus's AI suite first to see how far the RAM will OC with their utility. The AI suite is very good for teaching you about OCing values. After you install the AI suite go to the OCing section and you will see there is a auto OCing for you, but also a manual section that shows you all relevant values that can be changed on the CPU ( Vcore and multiplier ) and it's GPU, the RAM and FSB. Study them first, then run the auto OC and go back and check all the values that changed, BUS speed and voltage, Vcore, multiplier, etc. I honestly am not familiar with the differences between the APU's OC and standard OC values that are typically used, so I don't want to advise based on my familiarity with non APU cores ( I have OC'd 9850, 965, 6100 and 8350 CPU's). If you want to change the RAM manually, the values can be changed through the AI suite ( Much easier than restarting and entering the BIOS and then saving settings and restarting again to get back into Windows ). You will want to know the CAS settings and voltage for your RAM ahead of time. They are usually something like 11-12-11-27 at 1.5v. Use the manufacturers recommended values. There will be a lot of other settings for RAM, and you should generally leave them alone. The AI suite will allow you to revert back to stock settings at any time. It would be a good idea to carefully read the manual regarding the BIOS if you want to do anything further than the AI suite will allow. However, learning through the AI suite is clearly the best way to start.

Thanks for the reply I clicked on your link but the drivers are still CAP and CAR. But I doubt I actually need the drivers since everything appears to work fine. as for the RAM I am still messing with the AI suit. although many times what AI says something is running at is different than what the bios says. im thinking that I need to take a computer class or something.
