I am getting warnings that my color cartridges are running out. When my black cartridge runs out, the printer STOPS. Will it STOP when it runs out of a single color toner? I rarely use color but am currently looking at all cartridges needing replacement.

I can purchase a new color laser printer for less than half the price of all new toner cartridges.

Is there a way to override the system so that I only need to replace the black toner?

Solution
Printer won't work if any cartridge is empty, whether it's black or colour. That's normal behaviour and no way to override it.
The reason is that even a picture in shades of grey requires a certain mix of the other colours to reproduce those shades.

And all the colours are required to reproduce different shades of a colour.

That's why it won't work if any one colour is empty.

Buying a new printer won't change that.
