Hi, This fan is loud even when clean and case is like 14 years old but isn't liek falling apart. Has only one fan in the front with tiny intake slits. I keep the side off to push a button on the mobo to turn it on because I could never figure out how to configure the wires on this mobo, but I'm one of those people who doesn't mind having the case open anyway. I guess the on/off, speaker, blinking light, etc wires in new cases have the same codes written on them and that getting them connected to the right ports on the mobo will be just as tricky as with this one's wires. I dunno I changed out the mobo and couldn't get this one connected right and didn't want to fry anything so just left them all unplugged.

I have a spare universal case fan 4"x4" approx I could probably somehow rig onto it in place of the existing but it's not made to fit.

I don't need a big tower, basically just holding one optical drive and one SSD. I know cases can be had for like $30 delivered including a couple decent fans. I don't need it to be able to route all the wires behind the case, so just want something basic and not too big.

So should I get a new case or just change out the fan? Any case suggestions? Used on eBay is okay. thanks

I use an add-in flash card/usb3 reader for my wife's cameras. The case I chose has usb3 ports so that's where the header went. Having only 1 header on the mobo meant my add-in reader had to be PCIe x1 . So options are available, even if your case does not come with usb3, (little less than 1/2 dont) then its no worries to add ports up front if you feel you have a need for them.

It would be a good idea to read your case manual/mobo manual at least briefly, if you do get a new case or mobo, just to find out what stuff is and what its for, kinda like the instruction manual for tv remote. Most of it you'll only use the once during setup, but the everyday things like fan placements and settings will be set there too, requiring a simple push...

should I spend more to get one with integrated USB 3.0 instead of 2.0 or just get a $10ish PCI card that has four 3.0s since my new mobo will probably have 3.0 but a couple less than I might need?

That depends on how many you need. Some motherboards come with2,4 or even 6 usb 3.0 ports and if you have a case with two can't i imagine that you'll need more, but that's me.

No more messing with "plug this in, turn that dial, jiggle that gizmo, count to 5 then smack the top of the pc" just to turn it on.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rosewill-LINE-GLOW-ATX-Mid-Tower-Computer-Case-Dual-USB-3-0-come-with-Four-Fans-/380892044688?pt=US_Computer_Cases&hash=item58aeef5d90

Thanks. Got a Rosewill LINE GLOW ATX Mid Tower Computer Case on ebay for $50 shipped from newegg as the seller. Was going to get the Challenger for the same price but Line Glow includes four fans (challenger has 3) and has two USB 3.0 (challenger has no 3.0 but has an e sata which I'll probably never need).

I'll probably cut the leads to disable the fans' LEDs. This seems to be a much better case to me, so I don't know why the Challenger has like 2,300 newegg reviews and the Line Glow only has 65 meaning that less people bought it. Maybe it came down in price recently or something.

hopefully my case has that option to turn the LEDs off also, doubt it thought for such good features already for a $50 shipped case. Thanks. I will definitely research how-to this before cutting etc.
