This is my secound build my first one was 7 years ago and played all games ran sweet till recently I sold it i think it was out dated and tired not worth upgrading. Antec 900 case
Asus pk 5 deluxe motherboard wifi 775 socket
Cool master 520w power supply
e8400 intel
8 gig ram
2 sapphire graphic cards a 4850 and 5770 hd
it was okay.
My new build so far
zalman z9 plus case
crossair 650w power supply
extreme 9 fx990 motherboard asrock
fx6350 processor
2xhyperx ram 4gig @ 1600 mhz
1 xfx 7970 graphics card
normal 1tb hd 7200rpm
Ran need for speed rivals ran sweet last night today out it froze and had to restart then rebooted started the game again no problems then turned of the game and watched a movie on it and it blue screened.
it should not do that I am running win7 64bit.
I have newer and better hard ware but still some teething problems
can any one tell me what u think of this build?
I was thinking to put another 8 gig ram in and add one more xfx 7970 card.
do I have enough power for 2 cards?
And do I need two cards and more ram?

all my settings are on stock not touched any overclocking yet

Solution
I believe you mean "Corsair" PSU. What model is it specifically?

Also, your CPU is not strong enough for 2 7970s so don't get another.

8gb RAM is more than you will ever need for gaming. Anything more is pointless.

Looks like a decent build however: The R9 280X is a rebranded 7970ghz ed. I suggest going for the R9 280X since it's less costly, moreover if you can I suggest you upgrade to an fx 8320 at least. If you haven't bought the parts yet, go for the intel core i5 4570 since CPUs with more cores are better at video editing and rendering rather than Intel's CPU. And change the mobo along with that.

You do not need more RAM, and you probably won't need another GPU till 2016 or 2017 even 2018. Even the finest games today don't utilise more than 6gb of ram.

But if you do really want to add another GPU you'll have bottle necking issues even if you OC your CPU.

the power supply is the problem just checked when added the second card it got worse then went on line and calculated the power supply it says I need at least 750 watt which is shit cos now I cant use the second card and properly never needed a second card the 1st card was hungry for power now I need to sell my 600w or try return it and get something 750w or higher. the cards use around 200 w each plus processor 115w plus lights fans ram hard drives sucking up power now I have to wait to use the other card it should all run smoothly with the correct power supply .
how dumb to miscalculate the power :pt1cable:
its all new hardware except for the xfx 7970 which bought for a 150 euro each

only one other question is I picked the fx6300 cos I can overclock it to 4.7 GHz then it runs almost the same as the fx 8000 and 9000 series plus I picked 6 cores cos most games don't even use 4 cores so I was sure I had enough cpu power or I would have bought for 2 gpu an 8 core amd 8000 or 9000 series are u guys sure this wont work with 2 gpu

Don't forget that the 6300 is NOT a true 6 core. It is a 3 core with 3 logical cores. Often times in games it is handily beaten by an i3, depending on the game. The 6300 is on the same level as the i3 in terms of gaming power. People just think its better due to alot of cores, but it really isn't.

Look, no matter what you overclock to, the 6300 is NOT enough for two 7970s. It is BARELY enough for one. In some games you will bottleneck the 6300 with a single 7970. You NEED an 8320 minimum and even then you will have a bottleneck in some games when using 2 7970s, you REALLY want an i5.

god u know a lot and I think u are right I just bought a second power supply on the internet corsair 950 what striped the whole system again put it back together with the 950w added the 2 gpu;s it booted up perfect fast no problem then enables the crossfire on the ccc software then booted nfs rivals the loading circle was going much faster the a few times it froze for a second then completely froze could not get task manger to work so had to power off:pt1cable:
all setting are on stock now I am about to try with 1 card .
the only other thing I will change is the cpu next its cost me a fortune :fou: ?
if I go for fx 8350 will it manage 2 gpu's if igo for a fx9000 series its going to get hot at 5 ghz I need to invest in water-cooling that's another 100 euro at least the cost has gone high to build this amd system I properly could have built a better Intel system cheaper what a nightmare peed off a bit bin running around finding other parts now I have 2 power supplies and 2 gpu,s and a processor that cant manage the load maybe I build another system with left over parts and try sell it on the internet or sell the parts individually.
well going to remove a gpu now I let u know what happens next........boom.......an explosion...properly. :heink:

May I suggest something? Sell your AMD CPU and am3+ motherboard for as much as you can possibly. With the remaining money you have why not go for an i5 4570 with a cheap motherboard which you do not need to OC, or you could go for i5 4670k with hyper 212 and a cheap z87 board. That way you could crossfire without having bottleneck issues.

Of course be careful about CF you'll need a board that supports it.

Thank you tiny voices the I will buy the fx8320 and sell the fx6350 and keep this system then I should have a bad ass system. This advice is priceless thanks again.
the only other thing I have the graphic card on srock have not tryed and other games yet the xfx card in cut sequences shows beautiful colourful graphics when playing the game it seems dark and not so colourful could this be the cpu?
My old system with the sapphire 5770 hd and 4850 together was even more pixilated and I think or am I doing something wrong?

yes I did the settings the computer is running sweet with 1 xfx r7970 and fx 6350 cpu and 950 watt corsair psu and 2 x 4 gig Kingston hyper x blu ram @1600 MHz the motherboard is amazing has so much options asrock extreme 9 990 fx for overclocking. there is only when loading need for speed in every few revolution of the loading circle for a fraction of a second a pause I think that's the processor struggling to process the game quick enough but when the game has loaded no problems graphic's are sorted and it runs super smooth.
What I want to do now with the fan cooling system is over clock it to around 4.6 ghz just to get the out of this cpu and see if nfs loads smoothly.
can u tell me how to manually ovelclock step by step the bios settings to my cpu to 4.6 ghz or more with a stock cooler safely or send me a step by step link?
