Hello Tomshardware folk I have an issue I've been trying to solve for a while.

During games, particularly Dota 2, the screen will freeze. No sound, no blue screen, no mouse/keyboard control, nothing. The only way for me to get back in control of the PC is a soft reset.

I contacted the company that I ordered the PC from and they instructed me to test my RAM modules. I tested(In this case, played a game of dota 2. The time it typically crashes) with one module and then just the second. Both tests resulted in the freeze.

The next step, as per instructions, was to replace the graphics card. So I boxed up the card and sent it away. Normally you would say to just plug the monitor in to the on board graphics to see if that is the problem, but there is no on board graphics on my motherboard.

I recently got the new card back and put it in to the machine and tested it a few times and the problem persists. I have noticed that when it happens once, if I reset the computer and try playing again it happens quicker.

Help?

check with the motherboard vendor and your cpu not a lot of motherboards are rated to run the 9xxx amd cpu. make sure if your mb can support it that you have the newest bios file on in. with the high speed ram if it rated for 1.6v or greater you have to bump the dram voltage.

From what I can see on the Gigabyte site, the CPU is supported but I see only Corsair, Kingston and G.Skill under the DDR3 1866 section.

I assume that means that I need to invest in a few new RAM modules? Will updating the bios and increasing the voltage fix it?
