Hey folks,

I've recently purchased a domain name and i would like to set up a personalized email as "first name @ last name .com" (i own the url).

I tried to create a new "sending/receiving" mail account in Outlook.com webmail but it says "sorry, we couldn't find the right settings for your account".

When i've contacted my registrar, he told me that it wasn't the way such email addresses were working, that i had to have an email hosting service, either through their subscription, or by another provider. I seem to remember that i was able to create such an email without doing so a few years ago, but i'm a bit lost now.

Any help is welcome :)

You generally have to have a hosting service. Most ISP will not allow you to run a email server because of all the spammers out there. All it takes to make it work is a MX record in a dns server. In most cases the same companies that host the DNS for you will host the email server for you.

not sure i understand it right. For example, i've bought my domain name at namecheap, what should i do? They propose me a mail hosting service but it's not free. There are others free web hosting services but not sure of their quality, i would hate to heavily use this email address only to see that often i'm not reachable or i can't send a message because of a poor web hosting service.

The domain hosting is one server, the mail hosting is a another and the web server is a third. Buying a domain only gets you the first service you must get the other some other way. Most free services force embedded adds into your email and web services. You get nothing for free.

someone knows Zoho mail ? Several people are advising me that.

But i can set my webmail (either outlook or gmail) to receive and send the mails through the account i've created in Zoho?

And let's say i want to change of mail hosting services, can i transfer my emails received and sent in zoho, to another one?

Thanks
