Acer aspire 5536. Recently had intermittant trouble booting up, now problem is constant. When powering up, fan comes on and HDD spins in pre-boot mode then stops (however, sound like it is still spinning), screen remains blank. HDD only weeks old and works fine on daughters Acer laptop. Any suggestions? Cheers.

Try to make your laptop a hard reset.
You should find info about this at your providers web page or at your laptops manual.
Generally the reset is to :
Disconnect the battery
unplug from ac voltage
and keep pressing the start baton for 15 sec.
Thats what hp do, acer must have it too
