I'm buying lenovo Y510p which has different models. Both of the models have an inbuilt GT 755M. But one of the model has GT 750M and a dvd drive in the ultrabay. Another model has GT 755M SLI inbuilt and a GT 755M in ultrabay. The question is if I buy the model with dvd drive as I need dvd drive and buy an extra GPU GT 755M which they are providing on sale for $99. Will both the GPU perform normally or I will have to buy SLI only? Will it be a great difference to go for SLI?

I have the last revision of the laptop which includes 2 GT 750Ms in SLi. It’s my desktop replacement and I travel with it sometimes. You’ll be happy with it for gaming, provided the game supports SLi. The one gripe I have is that unlike other gaming laptops, this does not have a GTX model card. If you want to do any streaming to an Nvidia Shield or a Linux box, you'll want a GTX card.

To specifically answer your question, a 750 and 755 in SLi will perform fantastically. You won't have any issue with the slightly different model. In fact, they're basically the same card. Also, if I were you, I would just get a $30 USB DVD drive via Amazon. That's what I do as I very rarely need a DVD drive.

Doubling the gpu, almost doubles the performance. But frametimes will raise and the games might not have a sli profile. Great difference? I think so.
If they are about the same price, buy the sli notebook, and then after that get the dvd drive.
