Hi, so I am building a new computer and I wanted to transfer windows 7 and everything on it from my HP laptop to my windows 7 laptop on this 2.5 drive to a 3.5 drive. I found a program called WAT remover that allows me to make wndows 7 genuine without getting it cracked. So I decided I would do that (if possible) and delete windows 7 on my current HP laptop so as to not feel bad as if I pirated windows. So in short, would it be possible to move windows 7 OEM from my current hard drive to another hard drive, and would it work at all on a different motherboard? Thanks for your help :)

No.

1. Laptop install of Windows will not work on a desktop
2. Licensing. I don't know what this 'WAT remover' is, but when the OS next phone home...it will barf. OEM Windows 7 is licensed to the original motherboard. I believe the actual license agreement addresses such tools.
3. Even if it works, now you have an inop laptop. No OS.

Solution?
Sell the laptop, use the funds to purchase a valid copy of Windows for the new desktop. Have some left over to party with.

Hi

Apart from not being legal to transfer oem windows 7 to a different PC
Even if a retail win 7 unless motherboard chipsets similar you are going to have problems.
There are programs from Microsoft and other companies which can remove drivers from old build of windows

But best to do a complete re install
Moving a hard disk can be done sometimes, without proper preparation but it is rather hit or miss
. A 2.5" sata hard disk can be moved to a desktop PC but unless 0.5 or 1 TB and recent best to get a new hard drive

There are two types of oem disk for Windows 7
Microsoft system builder oem DVD
Manufacturers oem recovery DVD or recovery partition which are locked to a motherboard and pre activated. And then object to being on a different motherboard and require activation by telephone and at the discretion of call handler
