My laptop has always ran at 64bit (OS) and recently is has been so slow. Iv read lots of questions in this forum and people mistakable put 4GB of ram on a 32bit system. THIS IS NOT THE CASE HERE, it has suddenly said only 2.66GB is usable. Please help.

Hi

I presume this is windows reporting
What does bios report as amount of ram
Does graphics use shared memory (amount set in bios)?
Or is there a graphics card with its own ram?

Something must have changed recently to cause this problem
Can you think of any new device drivers installed ?
Or changes to bios settings
Or faulty ram modules
Assuming 2 x 2GB modules
(Remove mains & battery when making changes)

Remove one module
Start up windows how much ram shown ?
Shut down & swap memory modules
Do both give 2GB ?

Ok I made wrong assumption

Test ram module using diagnostics on windows vista,7 or 8 DVD
Or get memtest86 and burn image to cd

Sorry im not the most adept at this. I havnt seen the BIOS in a while, my laptop always starts with the ASUS logo and then enters windows 8 loading.
However the graphics card does not share the memory.
Also i havnt installed any new drivers, sorry i forgot to mention that it is a laptop.
Also i have not changed the BIOS as i do no know how too, i was about to do a refresh/repair of my pc.

How do i get the bios report?
thanks
