Transfering from old secondary HDD to new laptop

My desktop has some kind of super bizarre HDD failure (in the systems forum). It was 3 +years old anyway and had xp on it, so i bought a laptop. I have not been able to get windows to install on my old secondary HDD, but it has a lot of pictures and things i need to recover. So what is the easiest way to connect that secondary HDD to my laptop to get those files?

check on newegg or ncix they have some and to test the hdd health use there maker test tool i t is free and give you a good idea if the drive fail or not .

Just looked and thank you as that is exactly what i need. Hopefully it will allow me to potentially recover files if the hdd is failing (not sure about 2nd hdd yet). Any idea which hdd case i should get?
