If im exchanging a laptop for the same make model and everything. I have a ssd with windows and all programs on, is there a way to put that into the new laptop and perhaps change windows liceanse code. Or is that code strictly on the motherboard? Or am I going to have to format/reclone my ssd to work with new laptop and loose everything I currently have on it (program wise) and reupdate everything and so on?

it was windows 8 preinstalled, ssd was purchased and installed separately (Samsung 840 evo 1tb). Exact same make/model, just had thermal issues so swapping out for new one. Also have 2x 1tb msata Samsung evo ssd's on a raid stick/drive thing. But those are just for data, don't think had a single program on so not worried about those

Alright guys, got new laptop, opened up, started up checked for screen problems, or anything else. Ran intel extreme tuning utility to check for thermals (which was problem with original leading to this exchange). Thermals if it matters to anyone are low to mid 80's, before it was low 100's.

So shut down, opened laptop up, swapped out hard drives, started up. Windows had to think and configure for a few seconds. But booted right up to the desktop I have come to use for last weeks. So success. I also found a place to enter in a new windows product key, go to right side of screen to pop up those menus (windows 8), click settings, change pc settings, pc and devices, bottom tab should say pc info. When you clock on that, you'll get a quick system information screen, in which widows will show edition and activation. Also has a tab underneath for change product key.

So for now, reinstalled laptop without any issues at all. No lost anything, no recloning, no updates, perfect.

I will repost if any issues come up
