So far I have read the reviews of this card from the owners that bought it from NewEgg. I also read the review on Guru3D.com and they said that the card was excellent and preformed as one of the top r9 280x versions. That is not what I heard from the owners of the card. The owners of the MSI 280x said that the fans were horrible, card leaked oil, fans shut off or didn't work, RMA was almost impossible and didn't cool properly. Is this true with all cards? Because the majority said this. Should this card be bought?

I, too, am interested in the input to this question. I have heard that the original release had VRM cooling issues, and the BIOS release they put out just increased the fan speed to compensate - some people are not happy with the extra noise. That concerns me a lot, since I don't like screaming video cards.
This site did a round-up ( http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-280x-thir... ) and the extra noise is definitely noticable when compared to the ASUS model. Then again, their ASUS model appears to be running at just above 1500 rpm, according to a previous page.
This other site ( http://www.ocaholic.ch/modules/smartsection/item.php?it... ) shows comparable RPMs and decibels, but, alas, no videos!

I've had three of the MSI R9 280X Gaming http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FR6XPL8 cards and they have been great.
I've not had any problems with them but they are voltage locked if you want to do any serious overclocking.

I used two of them for cryptocoin mining and the other for gaming. No, they were quiet and no mine already came with the most updated BIOS.The coil whine. Is that a large issue to noise and comparing the MSI card to the Asus, it is pretty loud. Also, does oil leak out of the card? I have heard that oil leaks out of the card from I think the heat pipes. Possibly I do not know.

Coil whine is something that can happen to any card regardless of brand but I've not had the problem. As the other person has mentioned, the oil that you've heard of is a fan bearing issue. I've not had the problem again but I have heard that others have when looking at reviews.

But the majority of the people seem to have defective cards and not the greatest experiences with this MSI card. Have you had any artifacting issues yet when running games? No, and you're reading reviews from online retailers probably. You have to remember when reading those that the majority of people who write reviews do so because of a bad experience and very few write them when the card works fine. It's up to you. If you're this worried about it just get the Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X OC http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1681420....
It's probably worth it for your to have the peace of mind. Sapphire is the most reliable AMD graphic card manufacturer and has the best customer support/warranty in the market. I've owned a few Sapphire cards and they've all been great.

Will the XFX DD r9 280x be a good option as well? Should NewEgg be trusted? I mean when you ask for an RMA they won't give you the new cards from what I have heard. True or not true? Does NewEgg accept full refunds? And does the r9 280x XFX DD perform quietly, cool, and have good overclocking capabilities?

DO NOT get XFX. They make wonderful power supplies but terrible graphic cards with a high fail rate. Only stick with Sapphire, ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, or HIS. XFX are a brand to avoid when it comes to graphic cards but unfortunately they make very aesthetically pleasing models so they attract buyers like a venus fly trap.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but this seems to be doing a lot better than the other one I specifically made for the topic. How would you rate the HiS variant against the MSI?I really do not know much about the HIS card but it is one of the best cards for cooling and quietly from what I have heard at least.

Alright good to know. Do you have any hands on bad experience with them then? Also the Vapor-X from Sapphire looks appealing because it is only a little bit more expensive than the XFX and is one of the best r9 280x variants out there. If you think about recommending the toxic edition, it won't fit in my case so don't bother. I know that Sapphire provides great AMD cards so I think about black friday the prices will be low enough. As well as the sapphire card, should NewEgg be trusted? I am having mixed feelings about it now after the reviews.

Yes, I've had XFX fail on me and generally speaking, anything from Sapphire, MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS, or HIS are good products no matter which model you go with.

I recently purchased a MSI R9 280X Gaming 3GB and to my surprise the fans would not spin and I have to give it a push just to start them, even then they spin terribly slow and sometimes only one works. It was like this when I got it and it gets to around 50 degrees when idle. I have emailed MSI Last night so I shall look forward to a reply from them!
