How can I upgrade this computer (graphically)?

When I get to looking at video cards, I end up leaving the page more confused than I was before.

I am wanting to upgrade my video card since I use it mainly for gaming. Currently getting screen tears, etc. My fear is purchasing one and realizing it is incompatible (or worse actually downgrading!).

Here are my specifications:

Motherboard: Gateway SX2803 Intel Motherboard 48.3AJ01.021 / MBGBS01001 / DIG43L Eup (8853)

Processor: intel core 2 quad Q8300

Video: intel GMA X4500 integrated

Well the good thing is, I dont think you are in danger of buying something worse than what you have. Might want to post how much you are willing to spend on a new card.

Unless you plan to upgrade or replace the rest of the PC any time soon, you should probably not bother looking for any GPU better than a HD7750: I had a HD5770 in my E8400 and the E8400 was not fast enough to max out the HD5770 even in low-spec games like Diablo 3.

Check VERY carefully, the slimline case will restrict your choice of cards to the half height (or low profile) type.
The installed powersupply will not run a strong card due to its low output and upgrading will be nearly impossible, or, at least, expensive.
