Kind of a rookie at overclocking CPU. Just got a 8320. Please aid.

Hello TH team....

Just upgraded from a phenom x4 945 which had the stock cooler and I "overclocked" it to 3.2ghz for the remainder of its existence. :) Wow...what a difference. It seems the visheras are awesome overclock like champs.

My rig now:

Fx 8320 @ 4.4 Ghz
CPU cooler Zalman Cns5px
Gigabyte ud-3 rev 4

HERE IS A PIC OF THE BENCHMARKS AND INFO.

Temps: Idles at 32 and full load is 42c but then again I have an open case for now.

Passmark PT 8.0: 9123 overall, 1650 single threaded.

I just booted up and jacked the multiplier up to 22 and disabled all the turbo and power savings options, everything else to auto.

It seems to boot and pass benchmarks fine even at stock and sometimes below stock voltage? Is this normal? Is it defective or just an AWESOME chip?

Weird things have been happening though. I set it to 1.35 stock voltage in the bios and cpu-z and hwmonitor both show it's actually 1.32 and maxes out there. And it jumps from 1.32 vcore to 1.30 every 2 seconds...wtf?

Can anyone decipher this Da Vishera code please?

Maybe not average but definitely normal, especially as the fab process improves. The point of the 8350 and 9370/9590 is to make money off the majority of people who do not overclock. Personally, if I wasn't overclocking I'd just get an intel chip. the Sandy/Ivy/Haswell pentiums...

Gonna have to double check for LLC option.

How come the BIOS always sets voltage to lower than what I input? For 1.35 I get 1.32. So I guess I'll have to do 1.38 for 1.35.

EDIT Just wanted to update that I think LLC was HPC mode in my BIOS. It's called high performance mode. I enabled it and the voltage drop to 1.30 does not happen anymore.

That also explains why I was getting such low temps with prime95 Small FFT. I thought it was 42c under full load but in fact prime95 boosts it up to a max of 53c @ 1.35. I guess I should be happy it overclocks nicely on stock voltage since 4.4Ghz is stable. I wonder how far it can go on stock voltage? Obviously if it's 53c at 1.35 I can't go to 1.4 without getting a better cpu cooler.

Interesting, cheers.

Is it totally normal that my FX 8320 is rock stable at 4.4 Ghz on stock voltage? I thought they were lower binned chips that were binned because they were of lower quality. Otherwise, what's the point of a 8350?
