Hi, I need help!

I have a gateway dx-4820-01 and I've tried to replace the motherboard twice and both times I had the same results! When I plug everything back in, the ethernet light blinks, the cpu fan powers on but the tower never powers up. When I reconnect my old bold it powers up no problem so I don't believe there are any flaws in my reconnections to the board. What could this be...?

The PC keeps shutting down. I ruled everything out, so it was suggested by an IT friend that its probably the motherboard. Right now the old one boots fine, it just shuts down intermittently.

Hi Spectre,

Its an acer gt43/gt45 AM3 board DDR 3, I think the gateway model is: EG43M for the board What else do you need? I can look it up...

What CPU do you have? and try clearing the Cmos on the new board before you power it up.

It is all the bios settings. easy way is before you plug in the PSU take the little button battery out for a couple minutes and then put it back in.

You wouldn't happen to know which model the CPU is would you?

No, unfortunately without the system booting I have no means of getting this info. I just pulled the bios battery off the motherboard and no dice. its weird when I plug the power cable in, the machine acts as if its booting up. Ethernet light blinks, cpu fan starts, I hear the beeps and noises as normal. But the power button doesn't light up and the monitor says no signal!

What motherboard do you have, sorry? You've stated you've got a "gt43/gt45 AM3 board" which is for AMD processors, where later you've stated you have an Intel Core 2 Quad. You've also mentioned that you have the EG43M, which would make sense if you're using Intel.

Intel and AMD processors cannot be used on the same motherboard. A motherboard can only support one processor brand, i.e. Intel or AMD, not both. If you're trying to place an Intel CPU in an AMD board, or vice versa, your computer will not work/start. You could potentially damage your hardware too.

I apologise if I am causing any inconvenience, but please reply back if my information is incorrect. In addition, please may I ask what motherboard did you have, and what motherboard you have now? As well as, your previous processor and current processor.

Thank you very much.

No thank you for all your detailed help. Both are definitely INTEL (old/new) As far as I can see the board I bought on ebay is identical. There was some confusion on P/N...But other than that to the naked eye they look the same. Same screen printed information on the board etc...
