Adding a 2nd Hard Drive; Doesn't seem to Fit

I just go the Acer Aspire TC-605 which is supposed to be compatible for adding a second hard drive. However....none of the holes are in such a place as to secure the 2nd hard drive in place/ My second hard drive is a SATA and I mistakenly purchased a SATA > SSD converter. Is there a cage recommended or a way to secure it?

If you end up laying the drive at the bottom of the case, place a piece of clear thick platic under it and tape the drive down to the bottom using some adhesive tape. Scotch tape, works well.

Did you get a 2.5" sata or a 3.5" sata? The smaller ones are more for notebooks and may be too small for your case. Also what do you mean by Sata/SSD converter? Sata is a connection specification whereas SSD is a type of drive. Acer is incredibly vague on the details, but offhand it should go right next to your existing drive.

If all else fails I've been know just to put drives at the bottom of a case where the won't move around too much.

Interesting way to resolve the issue, DD. It is a 3.5". Sorry to be confusing. It is odd as the spots where the screws go on the frame of the computer just don't match up to a regular hard drive. Not sure what Acer was thinking and their tech support will NOT give me any answe regarding the upgrade. Frustrating to say the least. The screw locations seems designed more for a 2.5"... My best guess. So I was trying to locate an adapter to secure the HD, but bought something that is really meant for a smaller drive to fit. Didn't know there was a size difference. I thoughts HD was a HD...other than getting an SSD drive.

Anyway, will it really not hurt it to lay in the bottom?

If anyone knows of a cage adapter...or some such animal, please let me know. This is ridiculous. I know what I am doing, and yet have NEVER had a situation in which the holes were shorter than the length of the HD. Maybe I should just secure the two screws I can and not worry about the other two. Grrrrrr.....

Image 1: Metal cage in which the second set of drilled holes is definitely for a 2.5" whatever. I thought regular HD were the regular everyday size and SSD were tinier. I just wanted to add my old regular HD to this system.

Image 3: I've laid my old HD on top of bubble wrap on floor of box. Is this okay? I didn't feel the need to secure it as this computer resides under my desk and never moves other than upgrades to system.

Comments are welcome! Anyone who knows of some cage adapter that will allow me to secure to these tinier spaced holes to fit into a larger spaced hole...please let me know!

I have the exact same problem. Guess I'll try attaching to the base of the PC as well. Does seem awfully odd that they wouldn't have provided for a better way. There's certainly sufficient space within the case.

When I searched for info on this, I found the manual for this machine says absolutely nothing about adding more HDD's. I also ran into a FAQ reply on the ACER website that said there are NO slots for adding drives to this machine. I can see from OP's photos that the original HDD is mounted on edge at bottom front, bolted to a frame piece with 4 Torx screws. I don't see any additional holes to allow more mountings or metal plates farther over. Looks like Acer did not plan for you to add a drive. I find it intriguing, though, that you found a port on the mobo for the added SATA unit!
