I'm in need of a sound card for around $100 preferably cheaper is better, it needs to work with the mixamp to allow 7.1 channel, my internal motherboard "soundcard" idk what its called, just isn't cutting it. so if you could please find me a good soundcard for my computer, i got a Gigabyte-UD3H motherboard, with pretty high specs. i have about $70 to spend including shipping and tax, i live in canada and NCIX is preferred. I don't know anything about sound cards so i'm asking you guys that might, i would hate to buy the wrong sound card.

I need one with an optical connection, the mixamp i believe takes 5.1 channel and turn it into virtual 7.1 channel
if that helps.

That should work too. Yes, any decent sound card is better than integrated audio. The same driver suggestion as above still applies, btw, since it's another Asus Xonar.

If the problem is the mic in the headset the card won't do much for that. the processing of the input signal certainly won't be worse.

I just returned that a40's for another pair, and it seems to have helped a bit, i had to replace the usb power cable with a thicker one, that seemed to help a bit. I still think a sound card would be nice, with more options to "modify" my settings and stuff, i want a good one that will do its job. i don't need anything to fancy, so the one i mentioned seems like a good buy for the price, because it has an optical out?

And i was just wondering one more thing, cause the mixamp converts 5.1 channel into virtual 7.1 channel it should work, but i also just read it has its own Headphone amp, will this conflict with the Mixamp? or will it just benefit both?

This thread deals with using the optical out:
