USB, Mic, Audio Plugs

I just replaced a ATX motherboard with a new gigabyte ATX board, but for some reason the connections are not the same type connectors, anyone know why this has changed?

Yes, I recently purchased a Gigabyte Z87 motherboard and when installing it into my old ATX case (like 7 years old), I found that the front panel mic, usb, audio connections were different. After doing some investigation the plugs have more pins then the connectors on my old case. I was able to figure it out, but there was no documentation on these plugs changing or what the additional pins are for. Seems things are straying away from the standard. Thanks for your response and time.
