Hello,

So my problem is that my computer doesn't shutdown properly sometimes. It shuts down past windows and everything stays on, except the monitor. The monitor shows a no signal message, but my cpu fan, dvd drive, and led's are all working. This doesn't happen every time, but it has started to happen more often. I have tried taking off everything that is plugged in and holding down the power button for a minute to do a power cycle and it seems to have worked for a day, but the problem just happened again. I just did the power cycle and is seems to be working properly now, but im afraid it will happen again. The computer is a alienware aurora r4. The only led's that turn off are the ones around the chassis. The led on my corsair h80i cooler and the led on the drive bay are on. My cpu is an i7-3820 overclocked from 3.6ghz to 4.3ghz. I overclock my gpu's only while playing a game. Please can someone help me with this problem. My cpu is factory overclocked and I changed the core ratio limit to get a higher overclock. It has been working for several months so i don't think this is the cause of the problem, but if anyone thinks that this could be the reason.

Thanks

I have uploaded some bios settings

You'll have to try a few things. How long has this been happening? Give your build list and OS.

Does it work OK without the cpu overclock? Maybe the h80i won't let the pc shutdown till the cpu is cool enough.
Have you recently cleaned out your pc?

Where do I get the build list? I haven't tried it without the overclock, but the overclock has been working fine for several months now. It started happening a few days ago. Two days ago I tried to turn the computer on in the morning (after having it off all night) and then immediately I turned it off once I logged into windows and it had this issue. (I tried doing this twice) So I am not sure if this is a cpu heating issue. I am currently running windows 7.

So I put together a build list the best that I could. The power supply im not 100% sure about because there isn't any way for me to tell without opening up my machine and taking the psu completely out. I looked online and the computer is supposed to have a 875w power suppley. Please let me know if I left anything out. Thanks.

Thanks. Anything with the Alienware name on is a suspect. This means the Power Supply and the Motherboard. The Bios says 'cheap and nasty' so its suspect. Can you see if there's an updated Bios for this motherboard? You might have to ask Alienware. Maybe tell them of the problem and see if they've had it before.

It would also be good if you could measure the Voltages you're getting out of the power supply. Download and run HWInfo64.

I currently have to most recent bios installed, and I have tried re installing it. I just shutdown the computer and it restarted. I'm 99% sure I pressed the shutdown button. But when everything turned off, it beeped for like 2 seconds straight and restarted. Never had that happen before. I hope its not the power supply or the motherboard, otherwise it will really suck having to replace it. The thing is that its happening like once every 5-8 times I shutdown. I will get in contact with dell as well. Do you think its a hardware issue?

Thanks

@S_F were you able to figure out the issue. I have an Alienware 15 with the exact same issue. It started cropping up after the upgrade to Windows 10. However, unlike others related win10 issues online, my issue is intermittent and hard to isolate. Was it a hardware issue for you?

My problem was due to a program I used to emulate a ps3 controller to an xbox. The program was MotionJoy, which replaced the drivers for the ps3 controller. This driver was preventing the computer from shutting down, and once I uninstalled it, my computer started shutting down properly.

I know this is late, but I hope it helps someone.
