I'm ready to change the mobo, hdd, video and sound cards on my xp desktop. Can I transfer my files, settings and programs to my 7 system after rebuilding, and if so, how. I've built new installs, but this is my first time transferring files to an upgraded system. Thanks for any help and advise, you all have helped a lot over the past years. BTW, I have a SATA/PATA/IDE Drive to USB 2.0 Adapter Converter Cable for 2.5 / 3.5 Inch Hard Drive / Optical Drive with External AC Power Adapter.

Solution
Just install the programs, copy the folders over to the same location on the new setup and have the media program index the folders.

You can also do a web search on how to backup RealPlayer settings if it can be done.
Hi Looking 2build
unless the new motherboard is exactly the same as your old one then no you cannot
with so many hardware changes you are better of with a clean install of xp and install all your new motherboard , soundcard and graphics card drivers

I will be doing a clean install of Win7 H.P. 64-bit, along with the new mobo, i5 cpu, ddr3 ram, sound and video. After loading drivers, I was planning on using the USB 2.0 adapter cable to transfer the files from the xp hdd. I was hoping to be able to transfer my RealPlayer program & playlists and my Serato DJ program and playlists. I have a lot (over 10,000) songs that I painstakingly put in numerous folder and subfolders. I reeeeeaaaalllly don't want to have todo that again. I could always download the programs again.....it's those darn folders. Is this possible? Thanks.

I have finally had a chance to get back here. I have transferred my files and folders to the new 7HP 64 bit. I have RealPlayer installed and have all my music and videos loaded into it. I have my playlist m3u files in the system, but can't figure out how to transfer them into the Player. I might just call Real support and hope to get someone stateside (doubtful). Any thoughts? Otherwise, I'll update my results as soon as I can. Thanks all.

Thanks for the link, but I am able to do aal that. The problem is I have different playlists, like Old School R&B or Christmas music, with songs listed in a particular order. I use this for DJ parties, where I can press play and leave as I please. I have about 150 Xmas songs, many with the same artists or title. Real now has these listed by artist, alphabetical (which gives me multiple songs of the same name) or by date created (which may have same song title or artist). I saved my playlists as m3u files as per Real support. There are plenty of help to save playlists and exporting files, but I haven't found anything to import these m3u files.
I will have to call Real and hope they could help. I'll keep you updated.
