Yes, your computer needs to have integrated 5.1 sound card, or you must install a 5.1 sound card in a spare PCI slot.

If your existing integrated or PCI sound card doesn't support 5.1 surround sound, it won't have enough speaker-out ports to plug your 5.1 speakers in to.

For example, if existing sound card has only one speaker-out port, it only supports 2 or 2.1 speaker system (ie stereo or stereo + centre sub-woofer respectively).

My motherboard supports 7.1 surround sound.
But I was thinking will it be enough to get best surround sound experience from onboard or should i get a sound card.

It's the quality of the speakers themselves which largely determine the sound quality, and Logitech speakers are good quality. Onboard sound chips tend to be much better quality these days - easily as good as most PCI sound cards except for the very expensive all "bells & whistles" cards so no need to buy one.

You seem hell-bent on buying a sound card, and there's no doubt SoundBlaster ones are amongst the best of their type, it'll also have more features than an onboard sound adapter (which you may or may not use). Personally I'd wait too see what sort of sound your onboard adapter produces with your new speaker set before shelling out for a card, but that's up to you of course.
