I've been trying to fix this for awhile now, it only started happening about 4-6 days ago. i'm pretty sure that the problem is something to do with realtek audio, i have the version loaded off of the disk that came with my motherboard and have updated it in device manager.
ive uninstalled re-installed it several times and have tried lots of things that other people did like setting the realtek speakers to the main audio output.

when i plug in my headset (turtle beach x12's), speakers or other sound devices it dont show it in the Sound section and i don't get a notification heres a picture of what it looks like

My motherboard is a Asus a55m-e if that helps
please help i'm open for suggestions.thanks.

Solution
ok one last thing m8 go back to your mobo website and update your chipset drivers see how that goes , failing that i'd say you have some sort of hardware failure in regards to the onboard audio ,
if that does not work i would say buy a soundcard and install that and you will be good to go because that will be totally indipendant of realtek and onboard audio and you will get better sound anyway , these days a fairly good one wont set you back much money

My headphone or speakers dont work from either of the jacks, do you think they are broken somehow?

the battery as in the powercable and will this erase any data?

no m8 , simply power off your pc and in the center of your motherboard is the bios battery , pop it out and wait 15secs or so then put it back in , this will have nothing to do with data or your hard drives it will simply reset your bios to factory settings
