Need opinions on which Windows (XP -> 7 or 8) to upgrade to.

I ran Windows XP until the end, it was a good OS for me. Now that MS has cut off the last of it's support to Windows XP, with a heavy heart I think it is finally time to move on...

I just need some opinions on which OS I should upgrade to.

Let me start by saying I built and upgrade my own computer system, which kind of deters me from buying Windows 7 OEM as (I think) it is only able to be installed once. (My system has no overclocking on anything.)

I do standard computer things, such as web browsing and use Word Processing and other applications. I also do a lot of gaming, which makes me a bit iffy about buying Windows 8, because I have read many reviews and they seem to have conflicting information on which applications & games it can run.

So in the end I ask for some opinions, which Windows would be best upgrade to? (Or which is worth the $?)

Thanks for reading.

Hi Pliskin ,
windows 7 would be a good next step for you from xp , windows 7 can be installed multiple times , i have done it for my wife on 5 different machines as she has moved up in platforms with the same key , not keeping old systems and operating systems obviously.
your operating system will not play much of a part in your overclocking , your board , cpu and and bios will determine that.
As far as game compatiability with 7 , i have have too many games that i cant count , there is nothing i cant play on 7 that i could on xp and
no aplications i ran on xp that wont work on 7

I'd prefer Windows 7 since Windows 8 isn't really much of a difference from W7, except the layout. Although you know this, just remember to get a 64-bit OS so you don't have limitations on ram.

Is that Windows 7 you have OEM? Right now all that I can find online and in stores is OEM.

I read OEM binds to the motherboard when installed, I think.
