Hi all,

I recently changed my ram in my Dell XPS 15 (l501x) from 4gb (2x2) to 8gb (2x4).

Old ram:
NT2GC64B88B0NS-CG

New ram:
Patriot PSD34G1333L2S

I think the problem is, is that the old ram ran at 1.5v whilst the new ones are 1.35v.

But the Patriots are described as being "backward compatible with 15.v standard" so I thought they would be fine.

What can I do to fix this? The system runs fine and I enjoy the new upgrade but sleep now doesn't work.

It will sleep but the second i press the power button again and it will crash.

Should I change the voltage? And if so, how?

Thanks in advance.

Lets say I put my laptop lid down or go through the start bar and select "Sleep".

The laptop will sleep and the indicator that shows the laptop is sleeping will blink like normal.

But once I press the Power button (as was usual to turn it re-awaken it), the laptop will completely power off and the light will no longer blink. So it's like as if I turned it off completely.

Then when I turn it back on, it will tell me that the laptop has unexpectedly shutdown.

Try to wake it by pressing any key on the keyboard instead. It that works, it is on a different sleep mode now. You can change that in control panel.

My laptop only has the Power button for reawakening it.

Is this what you meant?

They're all set to sleep though, so there shouldn't be a problem there right?

This problem immediately started happeneing once I tried the new RAM a few days ago though so I do think it lies there. :??:
