Verizon's 4G LTE signal is strong in my NYC Bronx neighborhood, but my apartment is located in the rear of the building adjacent to an alleyway, so the signal in my apartment vacillates between "1X," "3G," and LTE, and never more than 2 bars of strength for these 3 modes.

Verizon wants to sell me a Network Extender for $200 (discounted from $250), which I can't afford.

I solicit your thoughts.

There really is no cheap way to do this and really make it work well. The best way to do this is with what is called a outdoor CPE router. Bandluxe is one of the few vendors that I know make devices but this is a fast moving market and I suspect there are many more manufactures.

You can to some extent put a outdoor antenna on a indoor LTE router but the cables to make it work are kinda expensive. The newer solution much like WiFI is to place the antenna and the electronics outside and bring the network into the building on ethernet.

The only cheap way I could see to do this is the way we used to do it with WiFI years ago. You could place a indoor router in a plastic box and then run power and data cables to it. The main...

The only cheap way I could see to do this is the way we used to do it with WiFI years ago. You could place a indoor router in a plastic box and then run power and data cables to it. The main downside to this is to make it water proof you tend to also keep the heat in and that along with the great variation in tempatures outside tend to shorten the life of the equipment.

Maybe you get lucky and can find a outdoor LTE unit that can take a verizon sim for inexpensive. The ones for normal WiFI are now so cheap you can get the whole package for the price of a outdoor antenna.
