Hey guys, I am playing Mafia 2 on Windows 8.1 Pro x64 . The problem is after a minute , it freezes for a second and then resumes the gameplay. It is running smooth BUT it freezes a second and then resumes normal gameplay. It is happening continuously after some time. Same thing happened with Bioshock 1 when I played it .
My Rig is Core i7 4771 , 16 GB DDR3 RAM, Asus GTX 760 DirectII OC , Win 8.1 Pro x64.
Is it happening because I am playing older games on Windows 8.1 ? Or is it happening because of something else ?
What could it be and how to solve it ? I have many games I wanna play.
Kindly help.

Thanks in advance

Yes I have the latest Nvidia Driver and my PSU is Cooler Master 700 W. How to know the temp while gaming ? Which software ?

Yes it happens continuously after 2 mins of gameplay . It freezes for a second and then backs to normal , and then happens again and then normal again . It keeps on happening.

It could be some background program trying to give you an alert of high RAM usage or something by the game, when you don't click it (because your in-game), it will come back about a minute later to try to get you to aknowledge it. For example my games would sometimes exit randomly and Norton would pop up with a performance alert.

This is my CPU temp.
CPU TEMP
This is my GPU temp.
GPU TEMP
I took these temperatures while keeping MAFIA 2 minimized.

I am using Avast. and there is no background program running as far as I can see in the taskbar.

why people (gamers:))still using antiviruses programs i run my rig a year and a half only with defender always up to date no problem,i remember they always pop-up in the very important scene. like your one kill away(MW2)from getting a nuke and antivirus pops-up.im just saying.

You mean the inbuilt defender that is on Win 8.1 ? Does that do the job ?

And are those temperatures normal ?

They are generally better at stopping the most suttle threats, Windows Defender will generally keep a system safe, they are just like an extra padlock I guess. Also the one he has (Avast) is very low on system usage as to not interfere with gaming.

I just ran prime95 . it seems okay and avast does not have any exclusion list and as I have avast installed , windows defender is disabled by itself.

So, how to fix the problem ?

freeze it can be software or hardware related problem it can be anything .some users solve by just updating video drivers. can be overclocking hardware problem, some fix by updating BIOS or just flash them.the easiest way is run some more tests like memory test :http://www.tecflap.com/2013/10/04/windows-memory-diagnostic-tool-windows-8-1/
