hello , the title pretty much sums up my question
i have a corsair dominator 3x2GB and my motherboard has 1 more slot so I'm wondering what i can do with that slot.
I'm wondering what would happen if i put an extra 4Gb in that spot , would that cause problems or slowdowns in anyways?
thanks in advance

What mobo and CPU? There's a variety of possibilities if all the sticks will work together, It may all run in single channel, if it's a dual channel mobo that supports flex mode, then you would have 8GB in dual channel and 2 odd GB from the 4GB stick running in single channel, if a 1366 socket (tri channel mobo) then 6 in tri and odd 4 in single (again if it supports flex mode), if a 2011 socket then (if flex) 8 in quad and 2 in single....Can look in CPU-Z in the Memory tab by Channels to see what you are running (the mobo tab will give your motherboard model # also, and the CPU tab can tell you what CPU you have
It'd cause your ram to go from (if you have it) triple channel to single channel. If you don't have triple channel then its already in single channel.

Theres also the possibility of it just not working due to the different memory. You buy them in packs of 2/4 for a reason, they are validated to work in that config. Theres also the risk of putting more strain on the IMC, what this entails I'm not to sure.

Look good, you have a AMD 955, and are running the DRAM at 1600 and it's in dual channel - so if you put the 4 GB stick in and it will play with your other DRAM should be at 10GB with 8 in dual channel and the odd two running in single mode which is fine. ;)

thanks for your reply , helped me alot
do i have to buy a 4Gb ram with exact frequencies and latencies like this (1600 mhz and cl9 i think)?
