hi, I just purchased a radio from china.. it is capable of internet through a 3g modem connected to usb dongle. what I want to know is ... instead would I be able to use a usb network adapter to connect to my Wi-Fi hotspot from my phone?

Solution
1) If there is a menu for 4G modems, then yes, otherwise NO.
2) The maker of it should be contacted if there is no setup for the 3G (you need the device plugged in first)
3) Probably won't work anyway (as I pointed out above) if it is set for Asian marketspace, they don't have the same services here so again isn't programmed for the U.S. Market, with the U.S. service providers (Sprint, ATT, MCI, etc.) nor for the U.S. devices available.
A) NO it uses a customized Windows CE as the OS, so it wouldn't just 'swap' and know what to do with a Wifi adapter then a 3G.
B) If there is a software hack for it, you would have to troll the Car Audio forums on the Internet for better results. They would definatively tell you if you can't hack it for Wifi or 'other apps', but you will be doing alot of surfing for it and have to start understanding alot more about them, how they work and so on to know when your reading the right information.

how about adding RDS to it?

ALSO when looking at the radio there is no option in the software that I can see and that is why I think I could use a wifi adapter.. I do appreciate the responses but there is nothing telling me on this radio it is not possible cause I don't see even how a 3g modem could work .

RDS??? Remote Desktop Services ??? If so, NO, this isn't "Windows" you get on a PC, this is Windows CE, which is specifically coded to work on 'locked' devices like PalmPilots (of old) or very old netbooks, to just do the things it is setup for by the manufacturer and nothing more (there is no 'Windows CE' software you can just download/buy).

As for 3G, that is a list of specific hardware devices that speak in a particular way, first off being the User Interface would let you 'set up' the hardware with the LIMITED list it supports, so a Wifi Adapter wouldn't be on that list. Second the setup would include (normally) the account information and such you need to 'input' into the settings to connect to a 3G service (be it a telephone number, acct code, whatever it is for that Cellular service). Being as this is a IMPORT I will HIGH BET it is designed for the Asian Cell Services ONLY, which is NOT ATT, MCI, Sprint, etc. here in the States.

So again it wouldn't know how to 'use' a wifi adapter because it's logic steps are, "I need to provide xyz info for device to connect to service ABC when enabling 3G", not a "let me enable device then scan for Wifi spots to connect to, ask user to connect to wifi spot via console UI". Different programming completely.

also I was wondering if I could use a 4g modem instead of 3g modem for this radio. the seller thinks no but what confuses me is the fact that isn't all the radio will get is the internet signal? I mean like a cable modem... the modem gets the signal and converts it to internet signal.

yeah I'm waiting on a reply as far where it is set for ( us or Asian markets). and I haven't purchased anything yet.. I just figured the modem did the work and the radio just received the internet signal..
