For a gaming rig,

How much more effective is the 2400MHz speed RAM than 1600HMz?

What specifically does a faster RAM do when playing games?

Solution
In gaming not a whole lot from 1600-2400 might be up to 5 or more FPS, in gaming basically DRAM is nothing more than a conduit for data, where faster DRAM shines is in multi-tasking, imaging, video work, VMs, CAD or like using large data sets

And faster memory tends to have higher latency or then it costs much more. In gaming, the differences caused by different RAM are minimal (I use 1333 MHz myself).
