I finished building my computer - and set it up with one SSD drive and one HDD. When I plugged in the HDD - after installing Windows 8.1 - the second drive shows up in in the BIOS- but I don't see it when I go into "My Computer". Do I have to map the drives?

It needs to be formatted first. Go to Disk Management (right-click the start button, on the menu that comes up click Disk Management). You should see a second drive listed as "unallocated." The wizard may pop up when you enter Disk Management but if not right-click that drive and select "new simple volume"
