I recently ordered an R9 280x to replace my current 7850 1gb.
My current psu is a Corsair CX500W 80+ Bronze - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

My i5 CPU isn't overclocked.

Is this PSU good enough or should I get a new psu? (low budget)

Thanks for any help.

CX500 is an entry level PSU from Corsair, I would change you PSU to this one.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Power Supply: Antec High Current Gamer 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($59.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $59.99
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Recommended PSU for 280X is 600W and that CX500W might fail in your system because it has cheap capacitors.

Exactly, don´t save on PSU or you´ll end up visiting your dealer several times :p  If you plan to Crossfire 600/650W will fall short!
