Okay folks, just a general question about switching from AMD to Intel. Will I have problems with my hard drives when I make the switch. I have one SSD ( crucial m4 512 GB) and one HDD ( Toshiba 3 TB). the rest of the system should be okay. I'm looking at the ASUS Maximus VI formula board and an Intel i7-4770k. I do water cool and have already figured out it should fit in my case, so not a problem there. I just hesitate about my hard drives not booting or being found by this major installation/ overhaul. thanks for your time in advance. normally I wouldn't sweat this but I'm not an Intel guy and don't know anything about it.

I just recently made the switch from AMD to intel and I'm very glad I did it! To answer your question I'll just tell you about my experience. I was running an FX6300 and an MSI 760GMA-P34(FX) paired with an MSI Twin Frozr GTX 770 and 8GB DDR3-1600 G.SKILL Ripjaws X. I thought this would run BF4 like a champ, but I was sadly mistaken.
Sitting next to someone with nearly the same setup I was envious of their systems performance. The only difference between the systems? They were running with a Z87 motherboard and an i5-4670K. I decided it was worth the extra money to gain that kind of performance. I bought an i5-4670K, MSI Z87M-G43, and an Enermax ETS-N30 cooler. I swapped the parts and after reading up on the matter automatically went to do a fresh install. The bios told me there was no boot device so I set the boot device to my Windows 7 install USB and loaded optimized defaults. After rebooting it went right into Windows! I must have accidentally set the boot to my SSD instead. Everything worked as it should've and I was able to install the latest drivers for my MB. I was playing BF4 in few minutes after the swap and was blown away by the performance of my new setup. Dumb luck? Maybe, but it works flawlessly.

Generally speaking, you can more often then not just add your hard drive and boot to it with Win7....prior to doing so, make sure Win is up to date and make a good backup of all...Then do the build, install HD and boot, Win will examinee all the new hardware and load appropriate default drivers, then you are running. Next update all the latest drivers for the new mobo from their web site...Next step is to run a good registry cleaner, (Wise has a free one) to get rid of old entries, and finally may have to re-authenticate Win, have done this numerous times - even AMD to Intel and Intel to AMD, about 95% of the time all goes well - if the unlucky 5% then have to reinstall
