Dvi No Signal

When I plug my DVI into my computer and turn it on I get nothing on the screen. We switched the graphics card with another computer to see if it was an issue with the graphics card. It worked in the other computer. So what is wrong with my computer that it doesn't recognize the DVI?

Does it work in your computer with some other connection (HDMI, VGA, DislpayPort)? What are your system's specs?

The computer is older so it doesn't have HDMI slot and doesn't work with VGA. What are specs? I'm new to this completely. Friend gave me this computer.
