With certain cards you can use a passive converter to go from Display Port to HDMI, but going from HDMI to Display Port will require an active converter as you are trying to increase the data rate.

Thanks for your reply. Are there any cheap gpu's that have a displayport output that i could but. I'm looking for under £50 as I know you can get gpu's for that solely for watching movies etc. Gaming does not matter to me.

What screen do you have that only has display port? Every display port screen i have seen always has DVI or HDMI as well.

I have the Dell S2340T monitor. It's really good apart from its price tag and the lack of inputs, only 1 HDMI and 1 Displayport input. I don't play my PS3 anymore but because they give out so many games for free through playstation plus I want to connect that to the HDMI port and connect my PC to the displayport.

Rather than convert DP to HDMI which requires an expensive active converter, you can use an HDMI switch which will take multiple HDMI lines in and then let you switch between them, this is the far more straight foward way of doing this.

I forgot about using a HDMI switch so I'll probably use that instead because it is much cheaper but thanks for all your help and time you've taken to answer my questions.
