Hello, I have recently been putting thought into getting a macbook pro for school and just to have a travel laptop. I am not interested in buying a used one so a new one would run me about $1200.

That is the link to the one I was looking into. I also want it to be strong enough spec wise to run minecraft. I have a Windows desktop that I play all other games on so that isn't my main concern. I will also be using it for school and I have heard they are great for schooling purposes. My only question is, is it worth it? If you have experience with macbook pros please feel free to give me your input on them. Thank you.

My son is graduating this year and has a MacBook Pro which he bought at the beginning of school and a hi end gaming notebook he bought last year. He uses the MacBook about 90% of the time doing all schoolwork, web browsing and everyday activities on it. The gaming lappie doesn't really serve as a "portable"....he uses it only when has access to an outlet as battery life even with Optimus just doesn't serve typical campus life.

I have several similar laptops in my office. We use them in the field for AutoCAD and project management. But again, while they serve very well to take the office out in the field.... better have access to an outlet or at least an inverter to plug into cigarette lighter in car as I get just over an hour's...

We have basically the builds below but with last years GFX cards. They ran about $2,100 but that was w/ all the extras .... base price is $1,169.00

Based upon my son's experience and the other kids I have met going up visiting, most either started with or switched to a mac after their 1st year for school usage, reliability but mainly portability and then have a separate desktop or lappie for their gaming needs. If ya gonna be stuck with just one, then I'd grab a Clevo customized for ya needs. Just be sure to get to the library early and get a spot near a power outlet or bring a spare battery.

Those 17" gaming lappie's weigh in at just under 9 pounds.....add the power brick and ya weigh in at about 4 times as much as the mac. There are smaller and lighter options but not with as much oomph.
