First, let me say that I am a novice with computers. This is my first build by myself. After completing the assembly, the computer will not boot. The DRAM LED flashes red and then nothing. No beeps, nothing on the monitor. When I put a disc in the drive, it sounds like it tries to boot up, but I can't really see if it's doing anything.
I only have one stick of RAM. I've tried it in all 4 slots with the exact same result. I've tried the memOK button. Nothing. I really am not sure what to do. I'm hoping that it's just a bad stick of ram, but I'm guessing that I've screwed something up. Not sure what to do or even how to find what the issue is.

System Specs:
ASUS M5A97 R2.0 motherboard
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600 Kingston hyper x
CPU: AMD FX 6300
VIDEO CARD: Radeon R9 270

Solution
have the same mobo. i believe if the dram light comes on and its red that it means the RAM is not compatible. check out asus's website for compatible RAM. also the book inside the box for the mobo has a compatibility page for RAM as well.

I think you may be right about this. I guess a careless mistake on my part. But as far as mistakes go, this is a pretty good one if this solves the problem. I'll buy a new, compatible stick tomorrow and hopefully it gets fixed. Thanks.
