Only 6.96 (7) GBs of my 8 GBs RAM is showing.

Hello, I'm new here so tell me if you need any more info then what I got.
I just bought a 8 GB kit from corsair. In the Bios it is detecting all 8 GBs of the ram and in the system properties tab it is also seeing 8 GBs of installed ram. However right next to it is says (6.96 usable) I know this isn't the OS taking up some ram to run itself because in the memory resource monitor it shows the OS using about 1 GB of ram. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. Please help.

Go to task manager and then click performance and it will tell you how much of Ram ur Computer is using. I dont get what ur question is

Around 2-3gb of RAM is used if your just surfing the Internet and have a lot of tabs open on chrome cuz it take a lot of RAM.

If you are using the integrated video controller (no video card) then the system will take some RAM aside to use as the video RAM. It's still odd for it to take 1.4GB at once unless there's something graphically intensive running. At idle the amount of ram borrowed would diminish.

You misunderstood what it meant by "6.96GB Usable" It means that you can still use that much ram out of 8GB. in other words Your computer is using 1.04Gb of Ram out of 8GB. so ur fine dont worry about it.

Ah okay, if ur just gaming then 8GB is enough, my little brother has also a gaming pc and he only uses 6GB of RAM for gaming. So im sure 8GB is fairly a lot of memory for gaming.
