Hi all,

Here is my issue, my FX-6300 with a Corsair H80i Liquid Cooler on a ASRock 970 Pro3 Rev2.0 is running warm. My cooler has a slight rattle to it, which is why I am going to order a new H80i. When I first start up my computer, my CPU start to idle around 30 to 40 degrees C. When I start putting my CPU under load it gets up to 65 to 69 degrees C. My ambient room temp is about 23 to 25 degrees C. I am wondering how can I get my CPU idle back around where it was when I first had my cooler which was about 30 to 34 C. I have my Cool and Quiet Running as well as the ASRock IES running.

EDIT: As of 10:50 pm, my Corsair Link software, as well as HW Monitor, is showing that my CPU temp has dropped down to about 40 to 50 C, with me just watching a movie online.

More about : 6300 idle load temps concerned

It sounds like you either installed the heatsink wrong or you got a faulty product. I'd have it replaced for that rattle and start over with a new one.

As I said, I am ordering a new H80i, I have heard that Corsair's RMA process is backlogged, and I would not want to get another faulty product via an RMA.

What monitor are you using to see your temps?

My guess would be since your water cooling is making an unusual nose, that would probably be the root of the issue. Possibly something plugging up or malfunctioning inside your pump or partially clogged line perhaps? Otherwise you could check that your thermal paste application is holding up, and maybe reapply with a high quality brand like Arctic Silver and make sure that the sink is making good contact with your IHS and has not somehow come lose. I have an AMD fx 6100 which is close to the same architecture and both CPUs have a max operating temp of 70 C. You may want to keep an eye on that and possibly back your voltage off a bit to reduce temps until you can rectify the problem. It's getting a bit too hot to run constantly. I have only a cheap zaleman air cooler heatsink/fan and i surf/application around 35-45 C and play MMO games with other apps running generally between 48-54C, having not seen anything over 55C with an ambient room temp around 20-22C (70-74ish F) unless i'm stress testing so your water cooler should definitely be out performing mine. Good luck. Kinda the obvious stuff but i hope it helps. But definitely don't run it at 65-70+ for any extended period as you already know what can happen past max operating temperatures.

Edit: along with backing your voltage off a little to reduce temps till you can find the issue, you could also check your bios for a thermal warning and turn it on to notify you if temps hit 70 so you can shut down and avoid damaging the chip. Again, good luck.

The sound is a rattling noise, as if there is an air bubble or a loose fan. What voltage would you recommend for this?

most BIOS I've seen are set up to increase or decrease voltages by an incremental system rather than a true adjustable value. I'd suggest backing it off 1 increment and test it, if it's still running too hot to operate for any long period, back it off another increment and test the heat again. repeat till it runs cool enough to be safe. Just hope the cooler doesn't have a complete failure, but your system most likely has some sort of thermal protection for shutting down before damage and a thermal warning you can set up to alert you when a certain heat is reached so i doubt your chip will just outright blow up. Hope this will alleviate your heat problem till you can get your new cooler and get it installed. let us know how it works out for ya.

edit: can also check to make sure your radiator fan is actually putting out the right RPMs. how old is the cooler?

I will give it a try, I just did a complete reapply of my Thermal Paste (Antec Formula 7)

As you can see, both fans are in the Corsair Link Quiet mode. The cooler is about 7 months old if that.

the Corsair H80i Liquid Cooler's 120mm fan is rated at a max of 2700 rpms. My fan varies from 1800ish to up around 2200ish depending on demand and is also rated at 2700 max. your SS shows that your max RPMs you've hit was 1098. I've never owned that cooler but from my experience, considering you're at 55 degrees with just those 2 programs running, it doesn't look to me like it's turning enough RPMs to move much air across the radiator fins. You also said that it was making a noise probably from the fan. Could be fan bearings failing or something in that area. Since it's only 7 months old, it very likely is still under the manufacturer warranty and you can get a refund or free replacement. That's something worth looking in to. Good luck.

The noise is coming from the pump, like the impeller in the pump is rattling.
