I just built a new computer with everything set up on a Samsung 840 EVO 240GB, including Windows 7.

What will happen if I take out a Seagate Barracuda 2 TB 7200 RPM from another computer with Windows 7 already on it and put it in the new one? Will everything work fine?

Thanks.

you can hook it up to backup and follow same steps as before but do not format , right click/change drive letter and paths then you should be able to see the hard drive then you can move the files off of the drive to a different location
Hi slimes ,
its not that simple m8 , the old hard drive would have had windows installed to the motherboard in that system so all the drivers for chipset , lan , sata , usb , audio etc etc will be different with the new motherboard , windows will either crash or just not boot at all.
You will not be able to boot from that drive but you may be able to copy any files you had on it if you had any documents or music or movies etc on it.
If you just wish to add it to your system for more storage then you can do this but you will have to format the drive first.
to do this right click my computer/manage/disk management , this will show you every drive hooked up to your system. find the drive you want to format , highlight it and right click/format and you will be good to go

Yeah I'm planning on just using it as storage. Should I format it on the computer it's on, and then take it out and put it in my new computer, or should I just put it into my new computer and then format it?

Also, how would I go about backing it up? Because I want a lot of the files on the drive to be on it still when I put it in my new computer.

just put in in your new computer ,right click mycomputer/manage/disk management ( this will show every hard drive hooked up to your computer )
find the added drive , make sure it is the right one , right click on the highlited drive/format
and you will be good to go

Earlier you said that my windows would just crash and not boot at all if I tried using it and that I can avoid this by formatting, but won't my windows crash/not boot if I turn on my computer and try to format it then?

What do you mean by hook it up to backup?

Thanks btw
