GPU won't fit all the way

Hi Tom's,

Sigh, built my first rig and it was way more confusing and frustrating than I had hoped.

I put everything together the best I could, and when I powered on my PC it turned on but failed to display anything.

I noticed my GPU (EVGA SC 780ti) never clicked into my mobo (Asus Hero) and upon further inspection I saw that the right side of the card isn't all the way in, it kinda leans down and out a bit.

So I tried to fix it, put the card in all the way (still no click), and then tried to screw it in, but it literally wouldn't fit, it HAS to be slightly bent.

I tried the other PCI slot, same thing.

Is this normal? Or is something wrong?

Solution
It takes a bit of pressure to put it in, it doesn't just slide right in. Firmly make sure it is pushed all the way in. I would say its just simply not all the way inserted.

I wish I could but I'm on my phone.

The side touching where the expansion slots would be is in all he way, but as you move along the card it comes out more and more until you can see about an eighth of an inch of the gold things (sry dk the name).

Another thing, when I turn on the computer, all the fans run (including the 2 780ti ACX fans). However, the card doesn't light up at all, does that mean it's not properly connected to the mobo?

Possibly. Can't you push your card in the rest of the way? Did you connect your PCI-E power connectors to the GPU?

I could push it in all the way, but then the thumbscrews wouldn't align and I couldn't screw it in. FML idk what to do I guess I will call asus tomorrow.

Edit: I plugged in the 8 pin and 6 pin into the card, filled up everything.

I feel like if if had no screws it would bend a LOT. In fact I'm almost certain it would.

Well I'm calling Asus and possibly EVGA tomorrow so hopefully that will solve my issues. Can you post pictures through an iPhone 5? I see no options on the screen.

Just to be certain, did you undo the "safety clip" thingy that locks the card in? It looks like you did in the picture, but I'm struggling to come up with a reason as to why it won't go in.

In the new picture it still doesn't look like it's in all the way.

I applied a lot of pressure, and I tried like 5-6 times, but it never clipped in or felt really snug.

As I said earlier, when i put it in all the way the thumbscrews wouldn't align, they would force it to be crooked like this.

No, it is. I personally had a similar experience when I didn't have any screws and my graphics card partially came out of its slot when I connected the monitor cable and the mini hdmi converter. I pushed it in, and it worked, and it looked just like this.
@Bellaflica
So the GPU works now?

The safety clip does what it looks like, it holds the card in from the inside end. It should relock automatically when you install the card. If it doesn't reach down there and push the clip inwards. You may or may not hear it click. But the thing is, the card should be straight, not tilted like it was before.

So I just tried putting it into the other pci slot again, and same exact thing happened. When it's in nice and straight the thumbscrews wont align. I tried bending the metal a little to make it fit and it didn't work.

That sounds like a bent card then, if the thumbscrews don't align the way that I am picturing it. Earlier when you said that I had pictured them not aligning due to the card being tilted, not physically bent.

Oh my god I did it. Hallelujah!
Thanks a lot for the help guys, izoli was right, It wasn't in all the way.
One last thing, I put it in the lower pci slot instead of the top pci slot, does that make a difference?

Just make sure that slot is a x16 PCI-E 3.0

If it is, it's fine.

Mines a little tough to see but the difference is obvious. This is what a card will look like fully inserted.

edit: Oop just saw you said you fixed it. grats and you mean pci-e right? If you have a pci and pci-e slot it will make a difference you wont be able to fit it in a pci slot. and if you just mean you have multiple pci-e slots it doesnt really matter that much but I think its usually agreed that you should put it in the top slot though I am sure.
