Should I upgrade my HD 5870?

As stated, I'm currently using a Radeon HD 5870 (with Sapphire's Vapor-X cooling).
I'll either be getting an i5-4670k or the 4770k if I can justify the extra price, and will be getting a compatible Z87 motherboard.
All of this will go into NZXT's H440 case.

I mostly play games and surf the web, but will also (not that often) edit videos.
I'll be playing on 1920x1200 and the 5870 struggles with the more demanding titles,
and I've been thinking about either a R9 280X or GTX 770.

HOWEVER, I am unsure if I should just upgrade now or wait for the new set of GPUs from both companies (AMD & NVIDIA). I can hold off of the more intensive games or just play them at lower graphical quality until then.

Also, I do not plan on going SLI nor CrossFire.

Solution
The new cards aren't due for quite a while, and it's usually a few months after a new release until I recommend buying anyway (often no good after-market coolers, or pricing issues).

I suggest the Asus GTX770 or the MSI R9-280X:

There are pros and cons. But the Asus GTX770 is slightly faster:

(If you use the Asus GTX770 benchmark the difference is only 4% so pretty minor.)

NVidia:
- Shadowplay (record gameplay and Desktop with minimal FPS loss)
- G-Sync (future G-Sync monitor for smoother gameplay)
- PhysX
- SLI superior to Crossfire (currently) for adding 2nd card.
- *adaptive VSync (I really like this feature)

I really can't recommend one over the other. You just can't go wrong either way, but I tend to favor NVidia currently.
