Since I do not have a decent graphics card I need to know whether having a HDMI cable will lower the performance of my computer.

As of right now I use a VGA cable at 1600x1200 resolution and can lower it to how I want.

So are you able to lower the resolution on a 1080p monitor using hdmi?

If so I'll either be getting the BenQ RL2455HM or the Asus VN247H which I haven't completely decided on yet.

Solution
a cable is a cable, it does not control what you send down it, you can set 1600x1200 if you want or any resolution below that of the monitor, note that 1080p is 1920 x 1080, so I assume you have a 1900x1200 monitor?

Thanks for the reply

I actually use a 32" tv (a really cheap one) because of the odd setup I have. Now I'm finally changing it and I'm just concerned that it would be a big jump to a 1080p monitor, but from what you've said I don't see it will be an issue and will be using the hdmi
