hello i need to know if theres a decent windows xp program that can test my ati GPU to see if its faulty? i have an asus M2R32-MVP motherboard with an ati amd HD4890 GPU and when i play pc games i get what looks like screen tears there not super bit tears but there big enough to be noticed on screen, also when i restart my pc my bios tells me the overclocked failed since im on an AMI bios and since asus has auto overclock enabled i cant turn off the overclock and i have no way to tell if my board is damaged or if its my GPU thats damaged so i thought id test my card to see if thats the problem.i cant afford any upgrades how do i fix screen tears

Computer setupASUS M2R32-MVP mobo phenom 2 quad core 920 at stock 2,8Ghz 4 gigs ddr2 ram xp
pro 64 bit and 1TB hard drive ATI AMD HD4890 1 gig GPU 1000 watt psu with 72
AMPS spreed across 2 12 volt rails

That won't stop screen tearing, that only decreases it slightly.
Vsync is by far the best option currently available, and that's saying something, because vsync is pretty bad itself. Hopefully gsync fixes this.

well is there a way for me to rule out my mobo beaing damaged as while i was attempting to remove the heatsink from the spu it accidentally pulled the cpu out while it was still locked into the cpu socket could this have damaged my mobo

Yes, but as mentioned, getting the framerate below 60 only removes a small percentage of the screen tearing.

Actually that removes most of it.

There's still far too much to be immersive, especially around flashing lights and skylines. Even a cap of 30 fps doesn't get rid of all screen tearing on its own.

If she's going to try to get her framerate below 60 to reduce screen tearing, then she may as well cap at 30, 45, or 58 fps and enable vsync. The lower cap will remove most of the input lag associated with vsync, as it's normally associated with pre-rendered frames (2 by default) exceeding 60hz and causing input lag with vsync enabled.

As for the actual problem, I don't think your GPU is damaged. I'd make sure the settings are all default in the BIOS, then look up instructions and flash it.
