So I found out today that all processors with the k designation require superior and more expensive motherboards for the overclocking capability. I don't know how much overclocking I will be doing, but I do know that I will be playing more strategy games (both 4X RTS and TBS) than any other genre, and if I understand correctly, they are CPU intensive, so I would like a high quality CPU that will run them.

I am willing to reduce my GPU "needs" from a GTX 780 to a GTX 770 in order to get the right processor, and am looking at the i5 4670k for its stellar single core performance. I need a good motherboard that can handle it, handle upgrades, but isn't crazy expensive. The Gryphon is quite a bit above my initial max price point for a motherboard, but I was also immensely ignorant of the importance of a MOBO and what it even does then, so now I am willing to pour more money into it. I think the Gryphon looks good, but I don't know for sure.....

Thank you!

The Gryphon is a great board, I own the HERO which would also be a great choice.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($189.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $189.99
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Awww the Hero is a very nice board, the price of the Hero in America is the same price as the Gryphon in Canada xD. The Hero is $229 for Canadians, that is why I am reluctant to pay the extra $30 before taxes. That being said, $40 isn't that much if the Hero is significantly better.
Would you say the IV Hero is much better than the Gryphon? Or will the Gryphon be good for me, an i5 4670k and gaming for the next few years?
