What kind of difference in performance can I expect if I overclock my 3.4GHz i5-4670k to 4.6GHz? Significant? noticeable? slight? Where would this difference be most apparent?

And outside the context of gaming? What other notable performance gains?

specs:

Graphics: GeForce GTX 760 SC
Memory: 8gb 1600
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Yes your right i do not have an intel 4670k but i was told so much good thing about those chip that i thought it was margenaly better than a GTX760 in terms of gaming power and that in most games except maybe some single-threaded cpu intensive games like elder scroll or planet side 2 the user should be much more impacted by the performance of the GPU rather than the CPU...in all those scenario overclocking the CPU will not provide any better framerate because the GPU is already saturated with data...

See, yes i do have an FX cpu and i do have it overclocked a lot, but i run a GTX 780 fully overclocked, this GPU has some serious power and will beneficit a...

In gaming it honestly wont be much. At factory setting its already more than capable of playing modern games with no problem. Years down the road when computers have doubled is power you will be able to squeeze more relevancy out if it however.

LOL Holy shit... I thought people knew better about the whole overclocking thing.

Overclocking giving 0 fps... HAHAHAH!~

@paitjsu sadff you should know better especially since you have a 8320.

Going from stock to 4.6ghz on a 4670k you can expect - depending on game - an increase of ~10 - 30fps or more.

@MalakiArtook Overclocking the cpu is necessary in a lot of games to achieve a constant 60fps.

Depending on the games you play overclocking your CPU definitely can help. For exexample total war games and modded skyrim are often CPU bound and it does help to overclock. That 10-30 fps increase is over exaggerating though except in cases where your already over 100. I would usually expect 5-15 fps in CPU bound games, less in gpu bound oness. That's my experience

I would not expect a 4.6 OC on a 4670k but 4.2-4.4 is easy enough

Not exaggeration, on skyrim you can expect ~10fps or more increase on minimums easily especially in cities.

On starcraft 2 you can expect 10 - 20fps increase in minimum fps.

Depends on game, max isn't really important as most people lock at 60fps anyways. But you can expect increases hand in hand with max fps as well.

See, yes i do have an FX cpu and i do have it overclocked a lot, but i run a GTX 780 fully overclocked, this GPU has some serious power and will beneficit a lot from overclocking the CPU side of things...but i would not have to overclock for many titles that uses more then 2-3 threads like BF4 for example or Crysis 3 and many other games that are well threaded...in fact my CPU could easily run at 4.6ghz daily if i would need to but there is no gain to be made in gaming past 4.2ghz on this CPU that would justify the augmented consumption...
