I was considering getting a case that has a fan on the side panel. Do those fans help out a lot with airflow?

They help airflow to the GPU a little, but I've heard some people say it can hurt overall airflow.

So in the end it doesn't really matter. I was like you I really wanted a side fan for better GPU cooling but I figured it doesn't really matter much and went with a case with good airflow but no side fan (450D).

The side fan main purpose is to cool GPU but is also disrupts the airflow of the case that the CPU tend to be hotter

I should have mentioned I have a Corsair h100 cooler. It is mounted on the top. So the airflow thing over the CPU isnt that important.

Does that change anything?

Well it's up to you.

Do you want a window? Or would you prefer a side fan that lowers your GPU temps by a few degrees.

Tbh just pick the case that fits all your needs and pleases you the most aesthetically.
