How much storage do I need for a boot drive?

I'm buying a SSD for the boot drive on my new build and I was wondering how much storage it would take up on the drive. I intend to install windows 8 and Linux dual-booted. How much memory would that require? I currently have a 256GB 840 Pro selected for my boot drive.

Is that too much or too less? Will I be able to have each system on the same drive?

Less than 50gb. A 256gb drive is still a good choice, because it leave you extra room to install your programs on it, like Chrome.

So a 128GB drive would be good for booting? I'm buying a 512GB 840 Pro for my main storage, and a 2TB for extra files.

Easily. You could probably install Mac OSX on there too if you wanted. My 128gb drive has Windows 7 on it, and bunch of programs, and I am still only using 78gb of it.
